UK-based, Re:course AI provides conversational avatars for medical training. Dozens of different avatars help steer medical trainees through preparatory courses & allows them to assess their skills by mimicking patient interaction “bridging the gap between traditional training & real-world scenarios”. The avatars are meant to reduce time to mastery & provide flexibility (tapping into the fact “medical school is tough”, “half of trainee doctors experience burnout”). The avatars also allow for standardized training to drive consistency of diagnosis & treatment (ultimately improving patient experience & outcomes). Re:course AI is already conducting an NHS pilot in South Yorkshire & collaborates with the US-based Keck School of Medicine. The startup also supports the UK Ministry of Defense to train clinicians to treat mental health of military personnel & veterans. Early evaluation of tech has shown it can improve performance of (both trainees & practicing) clinicians during patient encounters. Building on this, Re:course AI received grant funding from NHS England SBRI Healthcare & benefits from tailwinds: the University Alliance recently approved changes to pre-registration education program standards, which would see simulations run 600 of the 2,300-practice learning hours required by medical students (bearing in mind that the global healthcare industry must urgently address chronic staffing shortages). Re:course AI was founded in 2019 by Dr. Scott Martin (CEO) & Maksim Belousov (CTO). <Source: finsmes.com, tech.eu, digitalhealth.net>
